#RegisterForJustice

Justice in the Classroom spearheaded a Voter Registration Campaign this Fourth of July because we recognize that justice in our educational system needs to be accompanied by justice outside the classroom too.

Voting is the means by which we can drive governmental change to bring us closer to the ideals America is based upon. We are taught that this country is analogous to freedom and opportunity, and in order to fit that narrative we are taught a sanitized version of history. Pretending that freedom and equity have been, are, and always will be accessible to all Americans is a comfortable notion -- it takes away the obligation to act. However, truly caring about American values means learning from our past so that we can do better today. In order to cultivate well-informed, active citizens, we not only need racially accurate, inclusive, and sensitive education, but to also exercise our right to vote. Mobilizing youth to empower one another through civic participation and education is key in achieving justice, freedom, and equity -- in other words, the America we want.

What we’ve accomplished:

  • We mobilized our digital resources to start social media chains and challenges to register young students to vote.

  • Provided resource guides and videos with step by step directions on how to vote

  • Educated our community following in the intersection of civic education and racial equity and the importance of the student vote - especially in municipal elections.

  • We reached about 10,000 social media accounts and potential voters in total through our campaign

  • Partnered with the the Law Office of Vanessa Frank to explain the importance of youth and immigrant civic engagement; specifically on ways immigrants can still be civically engaged this 2020 election season.
