DISTRICT PROGRESS

  • Formed partnerships with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jason Peplinski, Curriculum Director Jamie Snodgrass, and Administrator on Special Assignment of Equity and Inclusion Dr. Richard Underhill. 

  • Have meetings once every two weeks to discuss progress on the district’s equity programming. 

  • Learned about SVUSD curriculum adoption process, which states that for our chosen texts to be approved they must first go to the curriculum committee when SVUSD is in an adoption cycle. 

    • SVUSD is currently not in a curriculum adoption cycle. 

    • Had open dialogue about why books like To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as books from a BIPOC perspective, can co-exist in the classroom. 

  • Formed a district team encompassing students from Royal and Santa Susana High School. 

  • Contacted school board trustees in order to get our 6 proposals on the agenda for the next meeting!
